1962, 1963 and 1964 Allied grille 1962 was the first of 3 years for the generic style grille with 2 headlights per side. And that could make identifying the year manufactured more challenging. Very simply, 1962 models used the same smooth headlight buttons as used from 1958 through 1961. For 1963, the injection mold was redesigned to put a cross-hatch finish on the surface of the headlight button. The same headlight button was used in 1964.

1965 Allied Van Lines Semi

Official Tonka history indicates that 1964 was the last year of production for the "Regular" series Allied Van Lines semi. However, there may have to be an asterisk attached to the historical references. Tonka enthusiast Mike Watchko contacted me in February 2010, and told me he had purchased a "Regular" series 1965 Allied cab only on eBay. And he had pictures to prove it. I submitted the pictures to a number of collectors/enthusiasts and the consensus was, nice cab but it was made after the fact. Months passed. An Allied semi, cab and trailer, was auctioned on www.icollector.com. A second 1965 cab had been found and this time attached to a trailer. So as January 2011 comes to an end, it's time to add the semi to the website. The 1965 "Regular" series Allied Van Lines semi does exist.

Value: An original, complete, unretouched 1965 Allied semi, in very good to excellent condition, with shiny paint, several scratches on the cab and trailer but mainly on fifth wheel and saddle tanks, decals excellent, no box, sold on eBay for $141 USD in mid August 2015. NOTE: The trailer had the shield in circle decal on the trailer.
