1954 1955 Tonka Rike - Kumler Company Private Label Semi

The Rike - Kumler Co. (also known as Rike's) was an American department store in Dayton, Ohio. Rike's celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1953. In 1959, Rike's became part of the Federated Department Stores conglomerate. In 1982, Federated merged Rike's with its Cincinnati unit, Shillito and formed Shillito Rike's. In 1986, Federated merged Shillito Rike's into the Columbus based Lazarus chain. In 1986 that corporation became Lazarus. In 2004, Lazarus became Lazarus-Macys with the Lazarus name dropped in 2005.

In a 1989 Tonka Topics article, Tonka historian Lloyd Laumann noted that the Rike - Kumler special was manufactured in 1954. The black and white photo just below was part of the same article and justified his statement. If you look very closely at the bottom of the door panel, you can tell that the door panel goes straight down and rolls under the cab, typical of the 1954 cab. Now take a look at the next picture down. The cab clearly has a flange at the bottom of the door panel, typical of a 1955 cab.

So should Tonka history be re-written to acknowledge the Rike - Kumler semi being manufactured in 1954 and 1955? Or does a foot note need to be added to Tonka history to acknowledge 1954 as the only production year with an unknown quantity using the newer 1955 cab?
